ED Academy: Coaching, Training & Mentorship for New Executive Directors
ED Academy, a 12-month leadership development program first launched in PEI in 2023 to support new executive directors, many of whom are stepping into leadership roles for the first time. Designed for leaders with less than three years of experience, the program covers critical topics including governance, government relations, financial management, succession planning, and organizational leadership.
More than just a training program, ED Academy creates a network of peer support and mentorship, equipping leaders with the confidence, tangible tools, and connections they need to thrive in their roles.

Board Governance Training
Strong organizations need strong governance. Across the nonprofit sector, boards are facing growing challenges driven by high turnover, increasing complexity, and limited access to governance training and support.
To help address this need, United Way Saint John, Kings & Charlotte introduced Board Governance Training for nonprofit board members. What began as a regional initiative expanded across the Maritimes in 2024, when United Way Maritimes launched a virtual pilot program for Nova Scotia and PEI.
The response highlighted just how critical this support is for the sector. Interest exceeded expectations, leading to the addition of a second cohort, and attracting board members with a wide range of experience levels. Through practical training and shared learning, the program helps nonprofit boards strengthen governance practices, build confidence, and better support the organizations and communities they serve.
